Choose Joy

Life is plain hard. There is no way around it. Life has a never ending bag of tricks to try, sickness, loneliness, anxiety, frustration, sadness, fear, insecurity, and the list goes on and on. With each new blow, it is natural to feel upset. Negative thoughts are like water. They keep rolling down the path of least resistance. If we choose to allow ourselves to dwell continually in negativity, we are going to find ourselves drowning in a pool of pain.

This isn’t to say we cant share our problems. That is the joy in friendship and community. Having someone to rely on when things get tough. What I am suggesting, is that you get it out. Verbalize what is hard, and why it makes you feel the way you do. Then let it go. The problem is not going to go away but your approach to it needs to change. Instead of complaining about having to work long hours, be grateful for the overtime pay. When you want to roll your eyes at the facebook friend who is complaining again, be grateful you have better support around you. When we are able to find happiness, we literally make ourselves healthier. Just as being envious of those around you can lead to depression, being happy can lead to a longer life. Today choose to have an attitude of gratitude.
